2008 in a nutshell, or should I say, "in a blog"!

It's always hard to believe how quickly time goes by. 2008 is over so I definitely have to blog. It's really been a great year. Naji's business is doing really well, I'm in my 16th year of teaching, Josh is in 5th grade, getting ready to make the move to middle school, and Anni has done a lot of maturing and settling in to high school since we had to take her out of Hoover in November of 2007, thanks to all of the support from my family and friends. The first pictures I have of 08 are from Valentine's and Easter, the kids are learning more of the true meaning of holidays and realizing things are a little different from what they believed as a kid, however, we still have fun with the year to year traditions, and also, Anni had her first real date, (and last since then!!).

And Naji decided to try out a new hair style, but recently went back to his short hair. :)

We took our annual Spring Break trip to Marina Bay in Fort Walton, and as always, had a great time! We spent time with a couple that we had met the year before, Rose Marie and Fritz and had a lot of fun cooking, laying out, and having night caps with them! Jodi and family spent a day with us, and we usually hook up with Missy too, but she got busy this year.

We went on Naji's annual trip to New York for the food show, this was the first time we took the kids so we did ALL of the tourist trips, Museum of Natural History, Ripley's, Statue of Liberty, Broadway Shows, great restaurants, Empire State Building, Top of the Rock, Central Park, Rockefeller....you name it, we did it!!

We welcomed July by celebrating the 4th with family and friends.

The kids and I were beach bound again in July and had a great time. We went to Panama City and stayed in a nice high rise called Origin at Seahaven. It was awesome, we had our own private movie theater we could sign up for, and the kids always ate for free at Sharky's across the street! Pool on the roof of the 4th floor, and we stayed on the 8th floor with a nice view of the ocean.

Then my little girl gets another year older, 15!!! My brother Kirk had a birthday party for her at his lake house, she invited a few friends, Kirk pulled them around all day on the boat, and they had the time of their lives!

All good things come to an end and school starts back!! Josh decided to try tackle football this year and did pretty good. Their team had a very good season!

We went to lots of Bama games!!! Roll Tide!

I tried my hand as an artist this year at sips-n-strokes with lots of my girlfriends and I think I need to keep my day job!!

In writing this blog I'm noticing I have many things I do every year, I think one of my resolutions is going to have to be to do some things differently, anyway, in 08, as I do just about every year, the kids and I went with my dad to the Veteran's Day parade in Birmingham, which is supposed to be the biggest. One of the pictures below is actually from Veteran's Day 07, but I thought it was very touching because Josh and his cub scout troop are in the parade, and Dad is on the curb watching, the picture is taken from behind the boys...they are all saluting my dad as they walk by, of course I cried!...This year, Kirk, and his "little boy to be" ... Austin, came with us.

Our supper club has been a blast, all of the pictures I have are of couples, as soon as I get one of our whole group, I'll post it!!
Believe it or not, my dad finally bought a house in the US this year, as a matter of fact he bought one right here in Birmingham, he invited us for an after Christmas breakfast where we enjoyed each other's company, looked at very old pictures and reminisced.

As if we had not eaten enough, Naji also had an after Christmas breakfast at his restaurant, the traditional zatar and jibneh meneish, hard to pronounce and spell, but yummy!! Here are ALL of the Christmas pictures if you want to see just how much we ate through the holiday! Speaking of food, I joined a recipe social networking group, if you're interested in sharing recipes with my friends and me, click on the "group recipes" gadget on the right side of this blog.

Well, that's just the very tip of the iceberg for my 2008, I think I know my resolution for 2009, to keep up with this blog monthly!! Naji, the kids and I are off to New Orleans, a riverboat ride to watch the fireworks, and the Sugar Bowl for the New Year and our 20th anniversary. I hope everyone has had a wonderful 2008 and will have an even better 2009!!!
Love,
Tanya, Naji, Anni and Josh

Dear Family and Friends,

I'm finally starting AND maintaining a blog to share with my "significant others". I have 7 or 8 blogs for my classroom, I have a facebook, myspace, ning, hi5, etc., but never had the time for a nice, simple blog...but I've decided to make time! :) I plan on posting at least once a month. Please come visit us often and be a testament to our lives!

Love,
Tanya and Family
